This course will train firefighters to teach driver awareness / defensive driving, and emergency response driving courses to fire personnel. Your new instructors can keep the training in-house or even offer classes to neighboring departments. Help protect your agency from liability by having your training documentation properly formatted and in place to present in court or other hearings when needed. Train-the-Trainer courses are the most cost-effective way to keep your agency drivers trained. Driving is a perishable skill, so in-house instructors will save your agency training funds. And if your agency is not currently conducting driver training on a regular basis, your agency has significant liability exposure when an accident occurs; failure to train allegations are common.

This Emergency Vehicle Operations Instructor Course for Firefighters will give your new instructors everything they need to put on defensive driving courses for firefighters, and emergency response driving courses for firefighters. Your new in-house instructors can then teach anything from roll call training to full day courses. Note that this course is not intended or designed to prepare your new instructors to in turn train other instructors. After completing this course, students will be prepared to present basic courses in defensive driving for firefighters and Code 3 driving for firefighters.
The Driving Company instructors can come to your department to conduct the training. 12 students for each class is optimum for learning, and for controlling the per-student cost. We limit class size to 12 to keep our student to instructor ratio low. All we need is a classroom, and a parking lot or other area to use for the behind-the-wheel learning activities. The size of the lot will need to accommodate the vehicle types being used. We can travel anywhere to put classes on. We have traveled as far as Tajikistan, so no destination is out of the question!
Most departments typically partner with neighboring agencies or fire districts to fill the class with 12 students.
We will need to send you a course proposal with pricing, because the price varies based on location. Our travel expenses are higher the farther we have to travel from our home location in California. We do our utmost to keep our expenses, and thus your per-student cost to a minimum. We always look for ways to keep our costs down, which also keeps your costs down. Our entire team has experience working for agencies, so we are sensitive to budget constraints.
Our instructors have experience teaching SUVs, pickups, Type 3, Super Singles (e.g. Skeeters), Type 6, Type 1, Water Tenders, and Tillers (we can train tiller drivers). We can train any vehicle you may have - we have even trained drivers in an 81,000lb 8-wheel drive crash rig!
